The Atlanta Falcons placed defensive tackle Corey Peters on the reserve/non-football injury list and waived quarterback John Parker Wilson on Sunday.
These two transactions complete the league mandated roster reduction to 75 players. Atlanta now has to cut its roster from 75 to 53 players by Friday.
Peters, who has missed the entire offseason schedule, is dealing with a foot injury and will now be forced to miss the first six games of the season. He will be eligible to return to the team after Week 6.
This opens the door for Peria Jerry to start in place of Peters next to Jonathan Babineaux. Jerry hasn’t lived up to his first-round draft status from 2009 and has supported the team in a backup role for the Falcons since.
The coaching staff in Atlanta has always maintained that Jerry had an explosive step and could elevate his game at any moment. This preseason Jerry has done just that.
Through three preseason games Jerry has five tackles and a sack and has been a key part of Atlanta push up front in Mike Nolan‘s new defense.
