The Atlanta Falcons released their first injury report for the regular season on Wednesday afternoon, with only two players making the list. Cornerback Christopher Owens and running back Jason Snelling were both limited in practice, and will continued to be monitored leading up to the Falcons’ Sunday matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Snelling and Owens returned to practice on Monday after missing significant time this preseason. An ailing hamstring kept Owens sidelined for all four preseason games, and Snelling missed out on any playing time as well with an injured calf.
Head coach Mike Smith discussed Owens’ injury earlier in preseason, saying the team was making sure the cornerback did not rush back too quickly, as hamstring issues are known to linger.
On the Chiefs side, defensive tackle Anthony Toribio, defensive lineman Allen Bailey and safety Kendrick Lewis all sat out practice on Wednesday. Linebacker Derrick Johnson and cornerbacks Jalil Brown and Brandon Flowers all were limited.
Toribio, Lewis, Johnson and Flowers are all starters in the Kansas City defense. With the Chiefs already missing leading pass rusher Tamba Hali, who is out on suspension for Week 1, the Falcons may be looking at an upper hand in several key matchups for the season opener.
Stay tuned for more injury updates as we draw closer to Sunday.
